First and Arriva join forces to launch bus stop announcement app for blind and visually impaired passengers

Two of the UK’s biggest bus groups, First and Arriva, in partnership with the Confederation of Passenger Transport UK (CPT) have today launched a new, state of the art Next [Bus] Stop Announcement Smartphone app, which could revolutionise bus travel for blind and visually impaired passengers.

Launched at Leeds United’s Elland Road stadium, the BUSFORUS branded app, which has been created and developed specifically for blind and visually impaired bus passengers, provides users with real-time audio and visual alert notifications, direct to the handset.  It means passengers will know exactly where they are on a journey and at which stop to get off.

That's one way of getting a cheap ride...

Illusionist Dynamo recently left bus passengers and passers-by gobsmacked as he seemingly levitated alongside the upper deck of a 543 London bus.

Now that's one way of getting a cheap ride, but not one we'd recommend, so why not head over to www.busforus.co.uk and check out the various tickets, services and facilities your local bus operators are offering.

And make sure you're following us on Facebook and Twitter too.

Actress and youth campaigner Brooke Kinsella MBE has added her support to the industry's BUSFORUS initiative. Speaking at the launch she said: “I am a champion for young people and support anything that benefits them and makes life that little bit easier. BUSFORUS is a great service in many ways; not just because of the environmental and financial savings that buses can bring, but also because it makes getting around safe and easy.

“I am the daughter of a London Taxi driver and I'm useless when it comes to getting around town, so I will definitely be using the site from my phone next time I’m out.”
